Take Action: SGO Needs Your Help on Two Important Requests
Oppose Medicaid Cuts
Before Memorial Day, the House advanced the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (H.R. 1), the Republicans’ reconciliation package that includes a number of policies, including cutting approximately $700 billion from the Medicaid program in the next decade with roughly 7.6 million Americans expected to lose coverage. Specifically, the policies included in the package would impose mandatory work requirements and increase costs for states.
The bill is now headed to the Senate where it is expected to face many challenges and potential changes. There are many Republican Senators who have expressed concern about the Medicaid cuts in the House package, including Senators Josh Hawley (R-MO), Susan Collins (R-ME), and Lisa Murkowski (R-AK).
As a gynecologic oncologist, you know firsthand how critical Medicaid coverage is in ensuring timely diagnosis, treatment, and care for individuals diagnosed with gynecologic cancers. Please consider contacting your senators today and urge them to oppose cuts to the Medicaid program that may limit access to care for individuals with gynecologic cancers!
Ask Your Member to Support Legislation to Restore Funding to the Department of Defense CDMRP
On March 14, Congress passed the Fiscal Year (FY) 2025 continuing resolution (CR) to fund the government through September 30. The CR drastically reduces funding for the Department of Defense’s (DoD) Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program (CDMRP) from $1.5 billion to $650 million in 2025 – a 57 percent cut from the FY 2024 enacted levels. Cuts of this magnitude could significantly disrupt research into new therapeutics for diseases, including gynecologic cancers, that impact the health of our nation’s armed services, as well as veterans, military families, and the general public.
SGO needs your help to urge members of Congress to support legislation that would restore full funding to the CDMRP, protecting the Ovarian Cancer Research Program (OCRP) and the Peer Reviewed Cancer Research Programs (PRCRP) which fund crucial gynecologic cancer research in support of service members, veterans, their families, and the public. Please take action now and ask your members of Congress to support bipartisan legislation to restore funding to the CDMRP and protect high-impact research for gynecologic cancers.
